#TurksandCaicos, September 2, 2023 – She will be nearly 70 years old before she can apply for parole from prison after being convicted of shooting her nine year old daughter to death, in an inexplicable, unspeakable crime that shocked the nation on May 20, 2020.

Najah Karioka of Grand Turk was, on Tuesday August 29, sentenced to life in prison, reports Court correspondent Wilkie Arthur, which also means in 27 years she can be paroled from the Department of Corrections.

It is the most severe penalty ever for a convicted woman in the TCI justice system.

It ranks with the 30 year sentence for Christopher Forbes, who was convicted of brutally killing two young women in Provo in 2016. Forbes was sentenced to life for each life he took, that sentence running concurrently.

Karioka was convicted of the crime on Thursday August 3 in a judge only trial.
