The Bahamas Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Bahamas Government and Botswana inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish Bilateral Political Consultation.
This comes as Mokgweetsi Masisi, President of Botswana and other officials including his wife, First Lady Neo Masisi, continue their visit to the archipelago to re-establish some trade links as talks have been in motion since the late 1990s.
Upon revealing the new signing, the Ministry in a statement spoke to the results the MOU will yield for both countries.
It said, “The memorandum will strengthen relations, friendship and cooperation between The Bahamas and Botswana for mutual benefits and to achieve common goals on international multilateral and bilateral ties.”
The Ministry further explained that the area of exchange will include but not limited to economic, Cultural Relations, Tourism, environmental, Agricultural, Health, Educational and financial services, adding, “the exchange of our expertise and experts will mutually benefit both countries by strengthening sectors in which we are looking to grow”.
The MOU wasn’t the only accomplishment made by Botswana and The Bahamas on Wednesday as the First Lady and other officials made a visit to the Nassau Cruise Port, warmly welcomed by gifts.
The Bahamas/Botswana partnership is a lucrative one as both nations are accomplished in their own way which can be of benefit to each other.
The Bahamas has about 7 billion dollars in investments in the pipeline and is home to the Caribbean’s leading cruise port in terms of number, expecting 4.3 million visitors by the year’s end.
Botswana is the capital of Diamond worldwide, the exporter of one of the world’s tastiest beef and a successful tourism product.
The marrying of these countries via the MOU is expected to yield great results.
The first lady also visited and toured the Princess Magaret Hospital’s children’s ward.
They remained in The Bahamas until Friday September 15th after which Masisi will make a visit to Cuba for the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Group of 77 and China, which are set to take place on the 15th and 16th of September. Masisi continues his busy streak heading to New York for the 78th United Nations General Assembly. This is according to reports by Loop.
