#Haiti, August 14, 2023 – With the worsening of the crisis in Haiti, heinous crimes such as kidnapping have been more frequent and an American nurse and her child fell victim to the gang associated kidnappers; however they were freed after nearly two weeks of captivity according to her employer.

A statement from the Christian aid group she works with expressed deep relief for her release.

“It is with a heart of gratitude and immense joy that we at El Roi Haiti confirm the safe release of our staff member and friend, Alix Dorsainvil and her child who were held hostage in Port au Prince, Haiti.”

The statement continued to highlight the groups thanks to those who took part in praying for their safety return.

Dorsainvil and her child were kidnapped near Port-au-Prince on July 27 from the El Roi campus, only days after the US government released a travel advisory, ordering its nonessential workers to flee the republic due to the worsening insecurity.

Following their kidnapping, Dorsainvil was serving in the community ministry according to the group after the abduction.

Regarding the details of her release, the group did not reveal anything relating to who was involved in bringing about their freedom, and they urged people to not try to contact the family. They informed that they will continue to divulge information as appropriate on their website.

Dorsainvil is the wife of the group’s director, who is Haitian.
