The Transportation of Solid Waste to Disposal Sites

#TurksandCaicos, August 11, 2023 – The Environmental Health Department is advising individuals transporting solid waste to disposal sites to ensure that all loads are securely covered. A securely covered load is one that is adequately encased in a transport vehicle in such a manner that the waste shall not and cannot be disbursed into streets and roads. Bagged waste, lawn waste and all waste in general being moved should be transported in a vehicle with a lid, net, tarp or any other means to prevent materials from blowing or falling out during transport. The accumulation of waste such as plastics in our environment not only makes it aesthetically displeasing but also contributes to the pollution of our natural resources for example our marine environment. Falling waste can also be a hazard to other drivers and road users.

If you have questions or require further information, please contact the Environmental Health Department at 338-2142/2143.

Note: Failure to comply is a violation of Section 45 of the Road Traffic Ordinance Chapter 13:01
