#TurksandCaicos, August 18, 2023 – The Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority will close on a tender for the design of a brand new airport terminal in North Caicos on August 16th.

The announcement was made by Selvyn Hawkins, Executive Chairman of the TCIAA in a recent Providenciales town hall meeting but there was no indication on the number of submissions the Authority had received.

“The Airports Authority is committed to completing that which is currently a self-funded project,” he explained.

The architectural phase of the project is due to be completed in the near future in addition to the repaving of the current runway.

“We hope to restore flight operations into North Caicos and we are still exploring the possibility of introducing a Fixed Base Operator.”

As for Middle Caicos, the airport terminal and its adjoining restaurant are also being restored.

“Whilst there might not be any commercial activity going into Middle Caicos we know that the terminal does operate as a structure that can offer some community commercial activity,” Hawkins said.

With only cosmetic finishes to be added the terminal will be open by October. It comes as the TCIAA aggressively pushes upgrades at nearly all airports across the country including Grand Turk, South Caicos, and Providenciales.

Town Hall Meetings were held in both North Caicos and Middle Caicos by the TCIAA.
