TCI to host Major Commonwealth Parliamentarians meeting this week

#TurksandCaicos, July 17, 2023 – Come July 21st dozens of legislative leaders will arrive in the Turks and Caicos as the country hosts the 45th Conference of the Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic Region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

Uniquely, the event is the first since the 2019 conference in Uganda and allows parliamentary associations in its member states to gather and further the aims of CPA.  It will be held under the theme: “Building A Resilient Region In The Face of Global Challenges.”

This year is specifically focusing on

  • Promoting  knowledge of the constitutional, legislative, economic, social and cultural aspects of parliamentary democracy in the Region;
  • Enhancing cooperation and understanding between Parliaments in the Region
  • Continuing to provide a regular means of consultation within the Region
  • Encouraging the study of and respect for good parliamentary practice, and more

Included in the full roster of events is a Youth Parliament. Speakers from across the Caribbean are confirmed for the event which will unravel, largely at the Shore Club.

Representing the TCI are: Youth Ambassador Andy Missick; Justice Tonya Lobban Jackson; Alvin Garland, Member of Parliament; Rachel Taylor, Minister of Education; Jamell Robinson, Minister of Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development and more.

The meeting is set for July 21-28th and will be held at the Shore Club in Providenciales.

Member States for the organization include Anguilla; Antigua and Barbuda; The Bahamas; Barbados; Belize; Bermuda; Cayman Islands; Dominica; Grenada; Guyana; Jamaica; Montserrat; Nevis; Saint Lucia; St Kitts and Nevis; St Vincent and the Grenadines; Trinidad and Tobago; Turks and Caicos Islands and the British Virgin Islands.
