Revamp announced for the Public Service by Deputy Governor

#TurksandCaicos, July 7, 2023 – Anya Williams, Deputy Governor is calling on residents to apply for government jobs as she unveiled a plan that the Government hopes will lead to a revamp of the Public Service.

Emphasizing the significance of the role of the public workers who keep the country running with services from immigration to education, Williams, who is Head of the Public Service said the major changes were in an effort to improve efficiency.

The agenda, described as ambitious, includes 10 objectives that the sector must hit to improve service for residents and benefits for employees. They include:

  • A Comprehensive Pay Review
  • A handover of public pension administration to qualified company – a tender has already been issued
  • Launch of a new Training Directorate and Public Service Skills Audit- a new training director has already been recruited and a training needs assessment will be launched.
  • New Public Service Appraisal System – which will hold staff accountable to make sure they are completing objectives
  • Recruitment of a Business Transformation Manager – whose focus will be on improving processes and delivery in the public service.
  • Launch of E Procurement – to make bidding and tendering process more streamlined
  • Launch of E Jobs Portal – To Improve and simplify the job application process
  • E-Government – this will see the launch of E Cabinet, new Police Records system and more
  • A Quarterly Public Service Newsletter – to better inform the public service
  • Estate Strategy – a comprehensive look at the needs of employees in terms of office space etc

Deputy Governor Williams, who has held her role for over a decade says, these 10 initiatives are expected to reduce the employment crisis in the country as well as improve the working conditions and efficiency of those already in the service.
