#TurksandCaicos, July 7, 2023 – The Murder Trial of TITO GARCIA of the Dominican Republic is pushed to early 2024; Garcia is currently on bail and was not required to attend Court at the last appearance, for the alleged killing of his girlfriend of some 15 years in April of 2022.

The matter was called before the Supreme Court on Thursday July 6, 2023 before her ladyship, Tanya Lobban Jackson for mention.

Representing the accused ‘girlfriend killer’, is defense attorney, Latisha Williams-Bruce and for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) was Tamika Grant.

Williams -Bruce expressed to the Hon. Judge her frustration in waiting for disclosure materials for almost a year and a half from the Dominican Republic.

The learned Justice also heard of difficulties with witness visitors visas for traveling.

She said she only received one additional piece of disclosure and that was a document or report from Inter-Health Canada, the local hospital.

There’s still a number of disclosure items outstanding.

This murder trial was scheduled to commence on July 17, 2023, but due to incompleteness of disclosure and unpreparedness, Counsels for the ODPP Ms. Grant, made an application to the Judge to vacate the July trial date. Their application was granted and the trial is now sent to 26th February, 2024.
