Case Tossed; no trial for Gun & Ammo Possession arrest

#TurksandCaicos, July 7, 2023 – Wednesday July 05, 2023 a young man RIVALDO JOSEPH, 22 appeared in the Grand Turk Supreme Court after the office of the Director of Public Prosecution filed a NOLLE PROSEQUI (discontinuance) for a 9mm Springfield Pistol he was arrested in relation to at Long Bay Beach, Providenciales, on February 27, 2023.

The gun had six live rounds of ammunition.

This matter was listed for sufficiency hearing for this coming Friday July 7, 2023 but counsel for the accused, Willin Beliard submitted written arguments of insufficiency of the evidence and Clement Joseph, Principal Public Prosecutor having reviewed the bundle did what a proper minister of justice would do and entered a NOLLE PROSEQUI on the firearm and ammunition proceedings against Joseph.

The Dock Yard male, who was a Jet Ski Operator told the Police when they found the bag with the gun in it, in a nearby bush, in proximity of his work that he recognized the bag as belonging to another person.  That person was identified as, ‘Champ.’

The firearm discovered was reportedly the one used in matters at Shore Club and H20 Resort and Villa area on Long Bay Beaches.  He was charged with carrying a firearm by means of endangering life, possession of firearm and possession of ammunition.

He was remanded at the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DCR), but walked free after the matter was dropped on Wednesday.
