PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos Islands, July 17, 2023 –  over 100 students from secondary and tertiary level institutions recently received the opportunity to gain valuable working experience through the Beaches Turks and Caicos (BTC) resort’s annual internship programme.

The participants ranging from third form students to final year university attendees embarked on six weeks of on-the-job training across various departments with further support from human resources and learning and development trainers. In addition to acquiring valuable work experience, all students received a weekly stipend.

Human Resources Manager Owenta Coleby shared, “being able to provide these students with working experience is something that we are grateful to accommodate. This is one means of helping our youths to earn while they learn from experts within the industry. The students will be immersed in the daily operations of the resort which we anticipate will allow them to choose at a later time, a viable career within the industry.”

Josua Louis, student from the Clement Howell High shared, “this opportunity from Beaches to build myself as a future watersports professional is exactly what I intend to achieve from this programme. I know that the team here in the watersports department are some of the most qualified to teach us the rudiments of this profession. I also love sales and marketing and interacting with people, hence my first two choices were watersports and the resort shop.”

He added, “This is exactly what we as young people need as this will allow us to gain invaluable experience to include on our resumes.”

Twefena Gilzene expressed similar sentiments when asked about what she was expecting to receive at the end of the period. “BTC is the largest private sector employer here in Turks and Caicos and for me to get the opportunity to learn from such experienced persons within this industry will give me added motivation to grow into being the professional I dream of becoming.”

General Manager James McAnally noted, “the opportunity to be trained by BTC team members will provide for each participant a journey into an environment of learning, personal and professional development and networking with those already within the industry. We are keen on training all our team members and with these interns having the opportunity to join our team, we see this as a positive way forward initiative.”
