July 17, 2023 – The lust for online shopping is strong even post COVID-19 lockdowns with online retailer site Amazon enjoying its largest sales day in history this month.

Residents shelled out the cash for a historic 375 million items across departments. The landmark sales day fell on July 11th which hosted the company’s yearly ‘Prime Day’ Sale where Amazon Prime subscribers can access thousands of deals on items from houseware to gadgets.

In a press release on July 13th after the end of the sale Amazon said it was the largest Prime Day event ever with $2.5 billion in savings for customers. They did not reveal the total income from the historic haul, some of which will go to independent sellers who list their item on the site.

More items were on sale than ever before and amazon says more people are letting the company into their homes with millions of Alexa-enabled devices purchased.

“Prime is an incredible value, and we’re proud to offer additional value for members through exclusive deals and events like Prime Day. Thank you to our Prime members for continuing to shop in our store, and to our employees and independent sellers around the world who delivered for customers this Prime Day,” said Doug Herrington, CEO of Amazon Stores.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was vaulted to trillionaire status, the first man to do so in history, when COVID-19 lockdowns forced a massive spike in online shopping.

Amazon is also favorite site for residents across the Caribbean, many of whom purchase their goods they would otherwise be unable to access and collect either directly or through forward shippers.
