#Cuba, June 5, 2023 – The central Cuban province of Sancti Spiritus will see the installation of solar panels to provide drinking water at the Aqueduct and Sewage Company, benefitting nearly 50,000 people.

Jorge Lorenzo, Director of maintenance and energy at the company said that it is a surety that water will be provided to 70 per cent of Sancti Spiritus’ rural population.

These modern solar panels are excellent energy savers and will significantly improve pumping efficiency.

Also they are installed in places where existing equipment has technological problems; these places include the municipalities of Yaguajay, Taguasco, Cabaiguan and Sancti Spiritus.

This initiative reaches about 5000 people in Juan Francisco and Nela, in Yaguajay, as well as the Dos Rios community, part of Guasimal in Sancti Spiritus.

Amid the climate issues the region is facing today and the emerging El Niño which brings  challenges such as severe drought, this installation is a well needed initiative.
