Barbados to Start, ‘Be Your Own Boss Project’

#Barbados, June 18, 2023 – The Barbados Trust Fund Limited (BTFL) and the private sector entity Equip4You, will soon be rolling out a new community-based project Be Your Own Boss.

It will primarily target persons who were recently retrenched from Government’s Ash Clean-up Initiative. Additionally, the project is aimed at equipping unemployed persons who want to create auto valet or landscaping businesses, or are already in those professions and want to upgrade their skills and businesses, with sector-specific knowledge and expertise in the areas of lawn care, general maintenance, and auto valet services.

The BTFL will facilitate training in Entrepreneurial Management Techniques, and utilise its resource personnel to foster the business cluster concept, and educate participants on the benefits of forming a cooperative society.  Where necessary, the BTFL will also engage the resources of other Business Support Organisations to provide training and expertise.

The objectives of the project include assisting unemployed persons to pursue entrepreneurship in the areas, and creating business clusters that will eventually lead to the formation of a cooperative for the participants, in their respective parishes.

Through the creation of business clusters or the cooperative formation, it is anticipated that the participants will be able to bid for public or private sector contracts.
