#TurksandCaicos, May 15, 2023 – Kenado Thomas, the 35 year old Turks and Caicos pilot held in Jamaica suspected of trying to smuggle marijuana since April 23 has received bail, but he is unable to leave Jamaica with a court hearing set for June.

Thomas was preparing to fly back to the Turks and Caicos from the Norman Manley International Airport when packages reportedly totaling 18 pounds of the drugs were found in his luggage as he prepared to depart on an interCaribbean Airways flight.  He was arrested by local police immediately.

Bail is reportedly set at $2 million JMD or $12,900 USD as Thomas, originally from South Caicos was charged with possession, dealing in, conspiracy to export and attempting to export marijuana.

According to Jamaican news agencies, his attorneys told the court that the Crown would have difficulty establishing that their client had knowledge that the packages contained drugs.

The TC Islander will be back in court in June. Until then he will remain in Jamaica having surrendered his travel documents.  15
