One Hundred and Twenty-Nine Illegal Migrants intercepted at sea

#TurksandCaicos, May 23, 2023 – Marine Branch Officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force were dispatched yesterday afternoon  (May 21st) , having received reports from the United States Coast Guard of  a  vessel heading towards Providenciales.

At around 4:56 p.m., the officers intercepted a blue open bow makeshift sailing vessel with no sail, transporting illegal Haitian migrants.

The illegal migrant vessel was found carrying a total of  ONE HUNDRED and TWENTY-NINE (129)  illegal migrants- TWENTY-TWO FEMALES (22) and ONE HUNDRED AND SEVEN MALES (107) , including ONE MALE MINOR.

The illegal migrants were handed over to  the Immigration Task Force for processing.

The RTCIPF can confirm the following statistical data for the year (May 21st):

Number of Interceptions: Seventeen (17)

Number of Males: One Thousand Five Hundred and Forty-Five (1545)

Number of Females: Three Hundred and Seventy-Six (376)

Total number of illegal migrants: One Thousand Nine Hundred and Twenty-One (1921)

Included in the 1921 figure are ELEVEN CHILDREN

The public is being advised to notify the closest police station or to contact 911 and give any information on illegal activity.
