#TurksandCaicos, May 5, 2023 – North Caicos has a new district Commissioner and just like his predecessor, it was the dream job for Jasmin Walkin. He detailed his new appointment speaking to Magnetic Media recently.

“My first week in office I can’t describe how I felt coming to work every day, knowing that there’s somebody in North Caicos that I can help,” he said.

Previously working alongside the Ministry of Education (MOE), in their Special Needs Department, he has experience with helping others, but this job has been his most rewarding yet.  Still, Walkin emphasizes though that he’s not totally out of the MOE and they still have access to his expertise.

“I told the Ministry that I am still available as a consultant,” he said “The vision is still my vision. The plans that I put forward, the establishment of a Special Needs Centre is still my desire.”

Walkin maintained he would still be providing technical support as well as communicating with the department.

“As hard as it was to leave, I decided to because it’s not going to stop me from still being a special needs advocate- it’s just that it would be hard for me to run special needs and do the work that I see here as DC.”

There was an air of gratitude and humility about the civil servant as he spoke about the regard he held  for the post.

“Growing up, the office of the District Commissioner was revered with such respect and honor. You’d never dream about the day (you’d become) District Commissioner for the island even though the role has changed over the years, it’s an honor for me,” he said.

Walkin’s appointment was announced on April 3, 2023 by the Office of the Deputy Governor.
