Interim Governor Anya WIlliams leads TCI to UK Coronation

#TurksandCaicos, May 5, 2023 – A historic flight it was on Tuesday for the Turks and Caicos; taking the first ever indigenous TCI Head of State with the mission being to witness the coronation of King Charles III. Acting Governor Anya Williams, alongside Washington Misick TCI Premier has led a distinguished delegation as representatives of the overseas territory.

Ahead of the departure of the Governor and Premier, a group of 10 marines from the TCI Regiment who left the country on Thursday April 27th to take part in the King’s Coronation as part of his parade. Two more security personnel, this time members of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force were aboard the flight with Williams and the rest of the delegation when they lifted off on Tuesday May 2nd.

The complete list of local security personnel to be featured in the Kings parade are Capt. Adrian Parker; Marine Arthrivia Russell; Corp. Brooklyn Williams; Marine Dalton Daniel; Marine Gregory Wilson; Marine Kylon Gravely; Marine Mauqueita Carter; Marine Raphael Anderson; Marine Temardia Williams; Lance Corp. Timothy Browning; Sergeant Lauralee Jagroop; and Sergeant Dakota Smith.

The Turks and Caicos officers will join 7000 others from 40 countries and the massive group has already been practising. They joined together for the first time in full at a mockup of the parade route at a UK airbase on Sunday. It is being described as the largest military parade since the death of Winston Churchill.

A press release from the Government announced the flight but did not specify who would be in the Turks and Caicos’ delegation for the event.

In the audience at the event will be the Turks and Caicos’ incoming Governor Dileeni Daniel-Selveratnam in her capacity as Governor of Anguilla.  Alongside the TCI and Anguilla, other Caribbean heads of state will attend; a parade of nations hoisting the flags of the Commonwealth nations which Charles heads is scheduled.

Included in that number and expected to be in attendance are: Antigua and Barbuda; Australia; The Bahamas; Belize; Canada; Grenada; Jamaica; New Zealand; Papua New Guinea; Saint Kitts and Nevis; Saint Lucia; Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; Solomon Islands; Tuvalu; and the United Kingdom.
