#TurksandCaicos, May 23, 2023 – The number of illegal migrants intercepted in the Turks and Caicos is nearing 2,000 with an additional one hundred and twenty-nine illegal migrants intercepted at sea just this past Sunday May 21; this capture follows one on Thursday, where 200 migrants were stopped just off Provo.

The United States Coast Guard tipped off the TCI Marine Branch of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force of a boat speeding toward Provo in broad daylight. Officers headed out to sea to cut off the vessel and around 4:56 p.m they came upon a blue open bow makeshift sailboat with no sail, transporting illegal Haitian migrants.

On board the vessel were 129  illegal migrants including 22 women, one child and 107 men

The Police say there have been 17 interceptions this year with 1,545 men; and 376 women, a total of 1,921 illegal migrants. They say 11 of that number were children.

It was only in mid April that the number of illegal migrants breached 1000.
