#TurksandCaicos, May 19, 2023 – Skills for resolving conflicts were at the centre of a day’s seminar organised by Barefoot Adventures Learning Centre for the Department of Education.  Attending were 17 guidance councillors from each of the schools in the Islands as well as representatives from the department.

The lively seminar discussed the importance of teaching skills to resolve conflicts as well as developing the skills themselves.  The program covered a range of topics, including identifying conflict, effective communication strategies, and negotiation techniques.

The day concluded with the participants role playing as students and parents in conflict and the way situations are best mediated.

The seminar was donated by WC Security Services whose mission includes a commitment to support our communities in staying safe and secure.

Patricia Duff of Barefoot Adventures introduced Dave, WCSS’ specialist training officer, who led the event.  In recognising the importance of equipping individuals with the necessary skills to manage conflict effectively, the training was tailored to meet the specific needs of the Education Department of the Turks & Caicos Islands.

Bryan Swann, Director of WC Security Services stated, “We believe that social responsibility is an important way in which we can help our community and providing this training in conflict management is just one example of our dedication to this goal.”

His co-Director, Dave Ryder added that they were proud to have been able to support the Education Department through this initiative.
