#TheBahamas, May 10, 2023 – The Bahamas’ Golden Jubilee Day was on Friday May 5th 2023 and schools across the country conducted special assemblies in celebration.

As expressed by Prime Minister Philip Davis in his national address, Jubilee Day is a celebration of national pride, a celebration of an independent Bahamas thanks to the founding fathers who made “great sacrifices and broke barriers to usher in a new Bahamas” 50 years ago.

Davis encouraged the children to celebrate themselves as Bahamian nationals through their talents and passions.

“Whether you love to paint or draw, beat drums or shake cowbells, write poetry or essays, dance to the beat or have great conversations with friends you’ll meet, whatever you love, do it today with jubilee.”

Children of schools across The Bahamas such as the Thelma Gibson Primary School are seen joyfully dancing wearing bright Bahamian colors to celebrate their pride as Bahmians; and JoBeth Coleby-Davis, Minister of Transport and Housing and Senator Randy Rolle are seen taking part in the celebrations.

Jubilee Day is one of many events leading up to the celebration of The Bahamas’ 50th anniversary of independence.

In fact, Jubilee Day is one of 50 events and 242 initiatives planned for 2022.
