#TurksandCaicos, May 10, 2023 – TCI Police Serious Crimes boss Dean Holden says his team is committed to bringing closure to families devastated by murder and today announced that they have charged a man for the January 15th murder of Jamaican chef, Stephen Asino Baker, 33 years-old.

Baker was stabbed to death; TCI Police got the call around 3:39am Sunday January 15 and reported later the same day that, “A team of officers from the Grand Turk Police Station responded to an address in Palm Grove where they observed a male bleeding from what appeared to be a stab wound to the chest, lying on the ground unresponsive.”

Roughly four months after the crime, 24-year-old Luis Guttierrez Rosario, of West Road, Grand Turk, who is originally from the Dominican Republic is now remanded to the Department of Corrections, after on Monday May 8th, being charged with the killing in Palm Grove Grand Turk.

No motive for the crime was revealed by Police.  Residents however have informed our news organization the deadly dispute spawned from a love triangle.

“I wish to thank the officers of the Serious Crime Unit for their dedication and commitment in bringing this case to a charge.  I wish to further reassure and emphasize to the public and families that the RTCIPF is committed to bringing prosecutions against perpetrators and when possible, closure to persons who have lost loved ones to these senseless homicides,” said Holden, Superintendent of Police.

Rosario, who now faces up to 30 years in prison for the homicide, which was the first for the year in the Turks and Caicos did appear before the Supreme Court Tuesday May 9; he returns to court for a sufficiency hearing on July 7, 2023.
