#TurkandCaicos, April 6, 2023 – Less than 25 percent of the population of the Turks and Caicos Islands is able to cast a vote in the General Election; the Elections Office on April 4 released that there are exactly 9,000 registered voters in the Turks and Caicos Islands of the estimated 40 to 50,000 residents in the country. The information reflects a 224 voter increase from 2021.

Two constituencies or districts recorded a fall in the number of registered voters, namely South Caicos and twin islands of North and Middle Caicos.  Five Cays and the district: Cheshire (SAY CHESS-SHURE) Hall & Richmond Hill had the largest increases, 57 more in Five Cays and 32 new voters in Cheshire Hall & Richmond which is the largest voting bloc.

The list which is cut off each November will be posted in each of the electoral districts for residents to see and confirm; disputes can be taken an upcoming series of Election Court hearings.  This however means only the 9000 residents on the current list would be eligible to vote if the government called a snap election.

Following the publication of the results of the soon-to-be rebooted National Census, residents will be able to see how many Turks Islanders are eligible to vote, but unregistered with the Elections office.

Cheshire Hall and Richmond Hill (ED 7) carried the most weight with 1377 elected voters, South Caicos (ED 3)  had the smallest number of voters at (341).
