#TurksandCaicos, April 6, 2023 – A Bahamian man has been placed behind bars after being found by officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force with drugs and a firearm early Tuesday morning.

In a Tuesday evening press release, police revealed the 30-year-old man was driving in the vicinity of Noah’s Bar when he was stopped by the police at around 1 am that morning.  A search of his car, a Honda Accord, turned up a gun, several rounds of ammunition, along with cocaine and other drugs.

He is currently in police custody while he awaits formal charges to be brought against him.

Violent crimes, especially murders in the Turks and Caicos are overwhelmingly committed by guns, especially illegal ones.  It is a trend that carries over to the rest of the Caribbean.

Dwight Gardiner, Superintendent of Community Policing and Divisions, vowed to continue operations to remove the illegal guns from the Turks and Caicos and bring criminals to justice.
