#TheBahamas, April 11, 2023 – Come 2024, The Bahamas will have a brand-new Disney owned Private Island for cruise visitors to enjoy according to the cruise line.  Lighthouse Point is the site of the new island adventure which pulls on themes from the Little Mermaid and centres Bahamian culture.

Disney describes it as “a unique celebration of Bahamian culture brought to life with the magic of Disney.”

Located near the tip of Eleuthera, the company has taken an environmentally conscious approach to developing the island and partnered with locals to bring local art into the space including aspects of Junkanoo.  A Bahamian art and culture pavilion will feature programs and locals providing tourists with opportunities to learn about the country.

The buildings are designed to appear as shells scattered along the shoreline and at least 90 percent of the electricity used will be provided by solar panels onsite.  The pier, which will boost massive cruise ships, was designed to avoid the need for dredging and elevated walkways will help limit impact on the landscape, Disney says.

The inaugural sailing, which will also make a stop at Disney’s other private island in The Bahamas, Castaway Cay, will be on June 8th, 2024, and is already almost sold out.
