Turks & Caicos CABINET MEETING Report February 7, 2023

#TurksandCaicos, March 6, 2023 – Her Excellency the Deputy Governor, Anya Williams, chaired the 3rd meeting (Part 1) of Cabinet on Tuesday, 7 February 2023 at the District Commissioner’s Office on South Caicos.

All Members were present with the exception of the Hon Minister for Tourism, who is away on official business. At this meeting Cabinet:

Discussed with Members of the National Honors and Committee a list of awardees and current process for National Honours and Awards for past and ongoing achievements in preparation for an award ceremony in 2023.

Approved a new 5-year strategic plan for Invest Turks and Caicos, responsible for encouraging, prioritising and incentivising domestic and foreign investment.

Approved for the Government to enter into a lease agreement for the relocation of the Estate Management Department and Housing Department to the Laporte Building, Providenciales for a period of four years.

Approved for the Government to enter into a lease agreement for the relocation of the Post Office and Department of culture to the Peter E Williams Building, Grand Turk for a period of three years.

Noted the Turks and Caicos Government 3rd Quarter Financial Report 2022-23 and approved its publication.

Accepted recommendations following a review of the TCI Government Procurement procedures. Members also approved the appointment of a consultant to lead the implementation of these recommendations in conjunction with the Deputy Governor’s Office and small working group.

Approved the enactment of a Census Order, outlining for the general public dates for the 2023 census.

Approved the organisational restructuring of the Ports Authority of the Turks and Caicos, following an external review, improving security and safety functions, compliance with international standards and improved pollution control and protection of the environment in TCI ports.

Approved the procurement of mobile container scanners for Customs Department, to enhance their work screening sea freight arriving in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Approved the appointment of Mrs. Curalena Phillips as Chairman Health Professional Authority for a period of three years with effect from 10 February 2023 until 31 March 2026.

Noted progress with the Consumer Complains Mechanism since its introduction in 2020.

Discussed a financial market assessment in support of a long term citizens’ empowerment initiative through the acquisition of shares in public infrastructure.
