#TurksandCaicos, March 23, 2023 – No cholera cases have been detected so far in illegal migrants from Haiti. The announcement came from Arlington Musgrove, Minister of Immigration and Border Services in response to Magnetic Media questions.

As part of a suite of precautionary cholera measures illegal migrants are masked before they are allowed to disembark any vessel.  Photos of the process emerged following the detainment of 185 of them in Providenciales on Tuesday March 21st.

“Upon arrival at the Center, every detainee is assessed by the Nurse and a medical history is obtained.  Anyone exhibiting symptoms associated with contagious diseases are isolated and the relevant testing and management performed.  This process is used not only for cholera but any communicable diseases.”

The Ministry of Health has inspected the facility and reviewed the Standard Operating Procedure prepared by the Nurse at the Center.

“This SOP details actions to be taken in the event that any detainee exhibits any signs or symptoms associated with the condition or if a case has been confirmed at the Center.”  The Minister assured. “Additional equipment and supplies required to manage cholera at the Center are being provided through Primary Health.”

Staff at the facility have also undergone training facilitated by the Ministry of Health to ensure they are well versed in using protective equipment related to cholera  preventing and managing an outbreak.
