#TurksandCaicos, March 9, 2023 – An extreme personnel shortage has forced the Government to agree that it is best to simply privatize janitorial services.

Neroy Kennedy, Director of Estates Management in the Ministry of Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development made the revelation during a PPID press conference at Crackpot Kitchen recently.

The Department of Estates Management deals with janitorial service and security in government buildings from offices to schools.

“The cleaning of schools has been a challenge for us over the years because we don’t have as much staff as we would like on the janitorial team or to supervise,” Kennedy said.

He explained that under the tenure of Jamel Robinson, Minister of PPID, the Turks and Caicos Cabinet had given permission to the Estates Department to privatize the function.

The turnover will be done in two phases; the first will see private cleaning services for public offices and government buildings with the second phase for contracting out the service on public schools.

The Ministry of Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development is only the latest government arm to admit its struggling with personnel issues.
