#TurksandCaicos, March 27, 2023 – No interruption to the 10 week turnaround period for passports is expected for the Turks and Caicos or the UK in general, despite strikes at several UK offices.

Workers at passport offices in England, Scotland, and Wales have planned a 5 week strike to begin on April 3rd, and end May 5, because of disputes over job conditions and pay.

The Public and Commercial Services has warned that delays are likely sparking fears from residents regarding renewals, and issuances during the peak Easter travel period.

Cayman has already issued warnings that passports might be delayed. Magnetic Media reached out to Governor Nigel Dakin to find out whether that applies to the TCI as well.

Dakin piggybacked on assurances from the UK Home Office, which indicated that they were not expecting delays outside the realm of normal activity.

“There are currently no plans to change our guidance which states that it takes up to ten weeks to get a passport. Preparations are underway to ensure that we can continue to meet the needs of our customers throughout an extended period of industrial action”

Passports for TCI Islanders are printed in the United Kingdom following electronic applications locally.
