#TurksandCaicos, March 9, 2023 – As the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College begins to celebrate college month, more new programs are opening up at the institution.

Rachel Taylor, Education Minister explained that thanks to a collaboration with LJM Maritime Agency in the Bahamas the TCICC will now be offering courses in the Blue Economy including for tour operators, hoteliers, boat captains, shipping companies and more.

In addition the minister said the TCICC is in the process of signing an MOU with the Eugene Dupuch Law School in The Bahamas to offer short courses for notary public officers and conversations were continuing to provide even more opportunities for students in the field of law.

Additionally, TCICC will be signing an MOU with the University of the West Indies to facilitate its nurses in training. Minister Taylor mentioned that they were currently speaking to universities in the UK, US and Canada, and anticipated collaborations to come from these institutions.

Last year several other courses were announced along with the reveal of the free college education initiative, for all TCI and BOTC citizens; that has pushed up enrollment in the college 48 percent.

The Community College has also now rolled out plans for a campus at the Department of Corrections.

The Minister said the newest upgrades were indicative of the tangible work behind the college’s theme for the month “Community, Connection, Collaboration.”

“We will continue to communicate, and collaborate with regional and international institutions as we partner to strengthen existing courses and introduce new ones, all in the best interest of bridging the skill gaps of our country,” she promised.
