#TurksandCaicos, March 20, 2023 – Previously wanted for a 2020 robbery spree, 24-year-old Jerry Dossou has been convicted of firearm and ammunition charges despite reported police foul ups during the trial.

Police had listed Dossou, who is a Turks Islander, as wanted back in November 2020 in connection with the brazen home invasion and robbery of a young mother. The culprits took her car and went on a robbery spree in the Bight.

Less than three weeks after, the then 21-year-old was caught by Police in a motor vehicle altercation. He led the Police in a car chase before alighting and pointing something at them, shots were fired by the Police and Dossou was injured, he still managed to evade them in nearby bushes. The Police returned later to find an illegal firearm.

It was charges relating to this firearm that he was convicted on in court.

During the trial however, two members of the Royal TCI Police claimed to be the one who found the firearm, a crucial piece of evidence, and picked it up. By the time it got to forensics there were five sets of DNA on the weapon.

Despite this, the jury was sufficiently convinced that Dossou was guilty of firearms offense.

He will be sentenced this Tuesday March 21.
