HON. OTIS MORRIS, MINISTER WITH RESPONSIBILITIES FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION, ATTENDS COMMONWEALTH TELECOMMUNICATIONS ORGANIZATION’S DIGITAL WEEK 2023

#TurksandCaicos, March 2, 2023 – The Hon. Otis Morris, Minister of Home Affairs, Transportation, Broadcasting, Energy and Utilities, and Telecommunications Commission, led a delegation to the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization[1] (CTO) Digital Week from 20th  – 24th February 2023, in London, United Kingdom.

After a four-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the CTO hosted a ‘Digital Week’ under the theme ‘Action for Impact’ which brought together countries from around the world to work together in partnership in the digital transformation journey.

Ms. Bernadette Lewis, Secretary General, CTO, and Ms. Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary General, International Telecommunication Union were in attendance and brought remarks to open the Digital Week.

The week-long conference featured three (3) important ICT events of the CTO:

  1. The CTO Forum
  2. The Inaugural Ministerial Alliance for Digital Nations; and
  3. The 60th CTO Council Meeting

During the Inaugural Ministerial Alliance for Digital Nations, Hon. Otis Morris, took part in the ‘Ministerial Caucus Four’ discussion along with other Ministers from Montserrat, the Republic of Guyana, Independent State of Samoa, and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Commenting on the conference Hon. Morris stated: “Digital Week provided a unique opportunity for the CTO member and non-member states to reconnect and to engage with key stakeholders in the ICT sector, and to understand the plans CTO has to move towards digital transformation globally. The Turks and Caicos Islands is looking to become an affiliate member in the near future”.

Accompanying Hon. Otis Morris were James Astwood – Permanent Secretary, Kenva Williams –Director General, Telecommunications Commission, Clayton Been – Chair of the Telecommunications Commission Board of Directors, and Christal Landy – Administrative & HR Officer, Telecommunications Commission.

The CTO is the oldest and largest Commonwealth information and communication technologies (ICT) organization. Established as the Pacific Cable Board in 1899 to complete a global telegraph network, in its latest manifestation the CTO is an international treaty organization, dedicated to facilitating effective adoption ICT and accelerating digital transformation and sustainable development in the Commonwealth and beyond.
