#TurksandCaicos, March 31, 2023 – Upgrades to the Flow network for Grand Turk and Salt Cay residents will be complete by May 4th according to Joanne Missick, Flow TCI Country Manager.
The suite of upgrades was undertaken following complaints by residents in Grand Turk regarding a drop in mobile and internet services. The company says it initiated a transmission upgrade project as part of its ongoing restoration exercise. That project is now in its final stages and is expected to alleviate residents’ prior concerns.
Maintenance work was carried out as recently as March 27th, and at least at one site (Ambergris Cay), the migration of customers to a new transmission link has been completed.
Flow along with Fortis TCI and other businesses suffered equipment damage during hurricane Fiona in September 2022, which left residents in the Family Islands with diminished telecommunications capabilities.
It’s a source of frustration for residents which the company says it is working hard to fix.
“In light of the reports received from residents, our technical team has fast-tracked the mobile traffic migration project and engaged all necessary stakeholders expeditiously to resolve these concerns and fulfil our promise to provide a superior mobile and internet experience,” Ronald Gardiner, Flow TCI Facilities Lead said.
The interruptions are characteristics of service providers across the country both telecommunications and otherwise, because of the type of connections they are forced to utilize to reach the entire country.
It brings into stark relief the need for the Government’s fibre optic cable project especially as the hurricane season approaches once more.
