#USA, February 9, 2023 – Bringing back the American utopia and helping out the small guy was the overhauling theme of President Joe Biden’s second State of the Union speech on Tuesday (February 7th) promising Americans a suite of reforms that would shove down taxes and lift up the middle class making the ‘everyday Americans richer; one of those reforms ‘The Inflation Reduction Act’, may have a significant impact on the Caribbean region.

Biden described it as “the most significant investment ever to tackle the climate crises”.

The act, which the Republicans who control the Senate have promised to repeal, makes provisions for incentivizing the use of cleaner fuels, becoming a world leader in de-carbonization, cutting air pollution and more.

The President also hinted that upgrades may finally be on the way for US territory, Puerto Rico which has suffered repeated infrastructural devastation after hurricanes in the last decade.

“I’ve visited the devastating aftermaths of record floods and droughts, storms and wildfires. In addition to emergency recovery from Puerto Rico to Florida to Idaho, we are rebuilding for the long term.

New, electric grids able to weather the next major storm; roads and water systems to withstand the next big flood; clean energy to cut pollution and create jobs in communities too often left behind,” he said.

America is one of the planet’s worst polluters pumping out harmful gasses that speed up global warming and is responsible for stealing the Caribbean’s shoreline, overheating its coral reefs and presenting more fierce dangers to life and property.
