February 2, 2023 – The pleas from the United Nations and Haiti seemed to have had no effect on Canada and the United States as on Tuesday they expressed no interest in assisting with Haiti’s ongoing crime crisis.

UN Ambassador for Canada, Robert Rae said the solution for this crisis must be Haitian-led.  He recalled that previous military interventions in Haiti were not effective, therefore, the responsibility should be on Haitian institutions.

“Haiti must address its continued insecurity challenges,” said US Deputy Ambassador Robert Wood.

An appeal for the deployment of armed forces on the island was sent out three months ago.  To date, no country has offered their support in this regard.
