#UnitedKingdom, February 2, 2023 – UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has fired his party chairman amidst a tax scandal in the Tory Party.  Allegations of misconduct had been flung at Nadhim Zahawi for days before his ‘sacking’, claiming he had owed millions of dollars in taxes which were then mysteriously settled while he was Chancellor of the Exchequer last year, a position which Sunak himself has held.

The Prime Minister, in getting rid of Zahawi said he was forced to act in alignment with his promise of integrity when he took up his post as country leader.  The British public would likely accept no less with Sunak’s resignation from Boris Johnson’s cabinet and the resultant shuffle that made him the top boss built on a foundation of integrity by his own declaration.

An investigation into the sale of over $30 million worth of shares from Zahawis company, UK polling site YouGov by His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs department found that the politician had a massive disputed tax bill, which he said was due to carelessness, not any deliberate attempt to fleece the crown.  The settlement of that bill came to just around $6 million and was awarded to him when he was head of the finances of the UK.

Sunak described it as a breach of the ministerial code.
