#DomincanRepublic, February 6, 2023 – Seven new cholera cases have been recorded in the Dominican Republic over the weekend, bringing the total number of infected people on the island to 43.

The Ministry of Public Health of the Dominican Republic on Sunday, January 29, reported that the new cases correspond to six Dominicans and one Haitian, who are residents of Villa Liberación and Solares del Almirante in the province of Santo Domingo.

The ministry noted that it has been carrying out interventions to prevent the spread of the disease and investigate any suspected cases.

The Dominican Republic began vaccinating against cholera recently after the arrival of the first batch of 85,000 doses purchased with the support of the Pan American Health Organization.

The country confirmed its first cholera case in October last year.
