OPEN CALL FOR APPLICANTS

TO U.S. EMBASSY NASSAU “Bridging the Gap” SPORTS VISITORS PROGRAM

#TheBahamas, February 9, 2023 – On Wednesday, February 8, U.S. Embassy Nassau launched the call for applications which will see 14 Bahamian (7 men & 7 women) track and field coaches and administrators participate in a fully funded, two-week ‘Bridging the Gap’ Sports Visitor program in Los Angeles, California and Eugene Oregon, May 6-20, 2023.

The U.S. Embassy is aiming to ‘Bridge the Gap through Sports’, bridging the gender and education gaps, by focusing on increasing girls’ participation, connecting the Family Islands, and providing youth with access to higher education opportunities.  During this exchange program, participants will engage with American peers and sports practitioners, participate in clinics and sessions on leadership, team building, and inclusion and equity in sports.

“The selected Bahamian coaches and administrators of the Sports Visitors Program will be expected to use what they learned in the exchange to create and build upon the track and field youth programs in the Family Islands and to work to increase girls’ participation as well,” said Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, Lance Posey during the launch held at the American Corner located in the Harry C. Moore Library, University of The Bahamas.

Eligible candidates must be a Bahamian citizen, COVID-19 vaccinated and demonstrate leadership qualities. They should possess a minimum of two years’ experience working with youth and/or track and field programs.  Applicants must also be willing to put the knowledge gained to use by executing a program within their community post travel.

“We have eager, excited, energetic young people and most of them are female by the way, ready to take full advantage of this great opportunity,” noted Montez Williams, undersecretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture.  “We will do our part to ensure The Bahamas is well-represented.”

The application deadline is Wednesday, February 22, 2023.
