#TurksandCaicos, February 9, 2023 – A month after it was announced that the Supreme Court would be expanding, a new acting judge has been hired.

Dominican native, Justice Davidson Kelvin Baptiste has been placed in the role and will serve for a period of three months according to a news release.

With over 30-years of experience, Baptiste has served in Dominica and the British Virgin Islands in some of the highest posts in the judiciary including Director of Public Prosecutions  in Dominica and Acting Attorney General of the BVI.  He has also served as a judge in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.

During the Legal Year Opening ceremony in January, Chief Justice Mabel Agyemang had expressed hope that the upcoming expansion would help with the extensive  backlog of cases affecting the court.

She had said when that individual was hired, the new addition would begin to act as a General Jurisdiction Judge conducting trials as the second criminal judge in Grand Turk.
