February 20, 2023 – While traveling back from an energy expo in Guyana, the Prime Ministers of St Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago were reportedly asked to leave the American Airlines executive lounge and use the check-in counter.

A statement was released on Wednesday from Guyana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, expressing their displeasure with the service provided.

The ministry said prior to the Prime Ministers’ arrival, the airline was notified and all protocols were in place for them to use the VIP Lounge.  They added that a formal letter of complaint will be sent to American Airlines.

“The Government of Guyana had previously protested this position taken by American Airlines against its own High and senior Government officials, but they have continued to pay scant regard to the Government’s requests for entitlements to the positions held to be respected,” the statement said.
