#TrinidadandTobago, February 24, 2023 – The governments of Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana are resuming energy cooperation talks in a bid to take advantage of the resources, infrastructure, and expertise available in both nations.

Minister of Natural Resources for Guyana, Vickram Bharrat, has revealed that the two CARICOM countries have been working on mutual goals together for a long time.

Combining Guyana’s newly discovered oil and gas potential with Trinidad’s expertise in this area, the Minister said attempts to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector have been ongoing.

However, there was some delay in the formation and operation of technical working groups after Franklin Khan, the former energy minister of Trinidad and Tobago, passed away in 2021.   Nonetheless, work in those groups is now scheduled to resume.

“…We agreed we are going to restart that working group so we can have greater collaboration between Trinidad and Guyana,” Bharrat said while speaking at the International Energy Conference and Expo’s closing panel in Guyana recently.

Guyana and Trinidad are the two major oil and gas producers in the region, with oil discoveries being made in Guyana as recently as January 2023.
