#TurksandCaicos, February 9, 2023 – During a Parliament meeting on Monday, Member of Parliament and former Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis said there are millions in Bahamasair money still missing in Haiti; a claim, which has since been labelled as “untrue.”

Tracy Cooper, Managing Director of Bahamasair said the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the suspension of flights into Cape Haitian and Port-au-Prince, in addition to a halt in handling and administrative services in Bahamasair, Haiti.  Approximately $530,000 in ticket sales had to be deposited in a Haitian bank once these services resumed, but has since been reconciled.

He added that another $38,000 in baggage and other airline fees remains outstanding, however, this will also be reconciled in short order.

Bahamasair says these outstanding sums will be paid, eventually as is the normal course of business.

Flights to Port-au-Prince, Haiti have once again been suspended by Bahamasair due to the ongoing security crisis. Bahamian Diplomatic staff present on the island has been evacuated.
