#TurksandCaicos, January 25, 2023 – The Ministry of Physical Planning & Infrastructure Development / Public Works Department in an effort to promote public safety, would like to remind road users and the general population of Grand Turk of the temporary road closure to the Church Folly bridge to vehicular traffic at this time, while plans to effect short to long term measures are being finalized, to have it re-opened.
As a short to medium term measure, the bridge on Church Folly, which is an alternate access through the capital, will be restored to double lanes to accommodate all traffic in the coming days as a new Request for Quotations, RFQ, will be released as of Monday 23rd January, 2023, to close on Thursday 26th January, 2023. Immediate thereafter, an evaluation will be completed to commence execution of these works. This follows on from an unsuccessful Request for Quotations Exercise which was initiated late November, 2022.
Our long-term measure will see the construction of a new bridge, opened with two lanes and to all vehicular traffic, including heavy-duty vehicles, through our Capital Programme.
Commenting of the closure, Minister of Infrastructure, Hon. Jamell Robinson stated “as a frequent motorist of the many roads on Grand Turk, I share in the frustration of the abrupt and continued closure of a key connecting street, particularly in light of an alternate temporary solution still being readily available. Team Infrastructure has and continues to work to find and implement medium and long term solutions for all the bridges in need of repairs and/or replacements throughout Grand Turk.”
The Public is also advised that in the coming days, the West Road Bridge from Coalbrooke’s corner to Tiger’s Bar, will be closed at both ends, to accommodate planned works. As an alternative, the public is encouraged to make use of the roads leading towards the Bohio Dive Resort by way of Town Tigers as well as the bypass road, just outside Ona Glinton Primary school.
Please ensure that the appropriate precautions are taken and drive safely.
The Ministry of Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development, PPID, take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your patience and understanding, as we strive to serve you better.
