#TheBahamas, January 24, 2023 – Illegal migrants in The Bahamas have been warned by Labour and Immigration Minister Keith Bell to leave the country or face deportation.

“Failure to do so will lead to your arrest, prosecution, deportation, and placement on a restricted list which will completely bar you from any further entry into this country,” the Minister said.

The recent increase in Cuban and Haitian migrants being seized at sea have become a cause for concern.  Bell said he continues to pray that Cuba and Haiti receive the help they need, however, border and immigration laws must be upheld.

The minister noted that the resources on the island are limited and they “cannot do more.” He emphasised that those who enter the country legally are still welcome.

Bell said the deportation will include people found in violation of their work permits.  Employers will also be prosecuted and stand the risk of having further work permits dismissed.
