#USA, January 11, 2023 – As the temperature goes up in the US following an early winter freeze, a new concern that’s emerging is the possibility of major flooding.  At least 61 people were killed across eight states in the United States in the past week as a record breaking winter storm swept through the country bringing rain, ice, snow and freezing winds to every single state.

New York was one of the worst hit places, recording roughly half of the deaths with temperatures as low as -11°C.  But as the storm lessens the ice is melting, compounding that, is a new east coast storm bringing inches of rain resulting in serious flooding.

California, Oregon and Washington are all under flood watch as the new storm brings as much as an inch of rain per hour causing dangerous mudslides in areas that are just recording from the cold.

Both the US and Canada recorded dozens of heat and power outages during the holiday weekend and on Christmas Day.  Flight cancellations numbered in the ten thousands across the country and Southwest Airlines was particularly impacted with more than 70 percent of its itinerary shelved and thousands stranded.
