#TurksandCaicos, January 15, 2023 – At the start of the year and in response to Magnetic Media inquiries, TCI Police say the man that had been taken into custody over the death of two young girls on December 24th has been released.

News of the incident which took the lives of a six and seven year old suspected to be caused by carbon monoxide poisoning broke late Christmas Eve causing heartbreak in The Turks and Caicos. Other than what the police revealed, so far updates in the investigation which involved both the Social Development Department of TCIG and Public Protection Unit of the Royal TCI Police Force have been scarce.

The man had been brought into custody the day of the horrifying incident; but that individual is now free.  A 12-year old girl, an older sister of one of the victims survived the poisoning.

It was reported the family was using a generator to power-up the home; the generator was being stored in the house while in use.  A definite no-no as it also presents a fire hazard.

Police have not given any indication that foul play was involved; however the man may have to face consequences likely linked to negligence.

Investigations are described as “ongoing.”
