#Japan, January 11, 2023 – The Japanese Government on January 6 announced its decision to provide an emergency grant aid of 3 million US dollars to assist Haiti with its cholera outbreak.
According to the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the aid will be delivered through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
“This emergency grant aid will allow implementing humanitarian assistance in the areas of health, water and sanitation, and food in Haiti,” the Ministry explained in a media release on Friday.
Adding: “Japan will continue to work closely with the international community toward improving the humanitarian situation in Haiti.”
Haiti recorded its first case of cholera on October 2, 2022, after more than three (3) years, with no reported cases in the country.
As of January 2 of this year, the Haitian government reported 452 deaths, 1,550 confirmed cases and 22, 649 suspected cases of the disease.
