#TurksandCaicos, January 15, 2023 – The TCI Judiciary’s filings will soon go completely digital with the introduction of the Apex Curia Suite, an electronic filing platform, to the island’s courts. A contract to install the systems in the Turks and Caicos was signed with the Caribbean Agency for Justice in late December of 2022.  Chief Justice Mabel Agyemang explained the process in the legal year opening on January 4th.

“The said product, offered by a company with a proven track record in a number of jurisdictions in the Region, will change the way we conduct business at the courts as it will deliver to us, the twenty-first century technological advancement of an electronic paperless court, including e-filing.”

Narendra Lalbeharry, Acting Registrar was specially credited as a major driving force behind the project.  The program is still in its early stages with local document scanning not yet commenced but the CAJ is due to begin working on the system in mere weeks.  The company will take the project from beginning straight to implementation and training for all stakeholders including the Bench, Litigators, court staff and court users. The CJ expressed excitement at the prospect of revolutionising the court system.

“Our excitement knows no bounds, as we eagerly anticipate a fully digitised court which will make our work more efficient and effective and place our judiciary on the map of twenty-first century significance.” she said.

There have been a number of other electronic upgrades from various government offices including the Attorney General’s Chambers completely digitising the country’s laws.
