#TurksandCaicos, January 15, 2023 – Another COVID-19 related death has been recorded in the Turks and Caicos Islands pushing the total now to 38.  The death was recorded last year on December 30th according to InterHealth Canada TCI Hospitals which made the revelation on Thursday January 12th.

The victim was an 81-year-old unvaccinated COVID-19 positive female with multiple comorbidities whom the hospitals say succumbed to her conditions while receiving care at the Cheshire Hall Medical Center in Providenciales.

TCI Hospitals reminded about those best practices and public health measures which prevent the spread of Covid-19; adding that the vaccine and the (omicron) bivalent vaccine remain available free of cost at the Primary Health Care Clinic.

The island’s 38th life lost comes as the world is paying keen attention to XBB.1.5, an antibody resistant Omicron sub variant, and China struggles with an unprecedented outbreak all while opening their borders to the public and it has pushed dozens of countries, including the UK, to take preventative measures against travelers from the country.

In the mix too, a particularly robust cold/flu season with Covid, RSV and influenza driving up hospitalizations worldwide.
