#USA, January 25, 2023 – On Monday morning the San Mateo Police and Sheriff’s departments in California posted comforting words for the families of the 11 Monterey Park shooting victims, which occurred about six hours away from them; by Monday night seven people lay dead, this time in their own district after another mass shooting.

The state of California has been left reeling after a second elderly man Zhao Chunli, 67 carried out another mass shooting. The latest incident which happened in Half Moon Bay Area came less than two days after 72 year old Huu Can Tran took 11 lives in Monterey Park.

This shooting puts the US at 39 mass shootings for the year which is only in its 24th day, an all-time high since rising gun crime pushed the Gun Violence Archive to start tracking the mass shootings in 2012.

San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office broke down the incident which spanned two locations explaining that the man went after eight former coworkers of his, five were shot at a mushroom farm and three at a trucking company minutes away.  Police were alerted after the first shooting and rushed to the farm but four men were already dead and the other rushed to hospital, according to Sheriff Christina Corpus.

The suspect could not immediately be located and it was only during the search that the police found three more victims already dead.

Two hours after the first call was made to police, Zhao drove himself to the Sheriff’s office and was arrested.

The sole survivor of the incident remains in hospital.
