#TurksandCaicos, December 13, 2022 – This year’s Humanitarian of The Year, as awarded by the TCI Human Rights Commission, is Mrs Sivil Dean Morgan, illustrious creator of the Breezy Beach Dancers and Christmas in Blue Hills.  Morgan was honored at the Shore Club in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands on December 10th on the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

A fourth generation Turks and Caicos Islander, she is a founding member of Cargo Express Services Ltd additionally, she is a seamstress, cake baker and decorator and owner of Sivil’s Delicious Cakes.

Morgan said next to the birth of her children, it was one of the best moments in her life and described the journey that led her to the award.

“Twenty-two years ago, my community of Wheeland was extremely dormant.  I responded to this and the cries of my community people by choosing to be a part of the solution and hosted three separate events annually.”

Those events include Easter egg hunt, Guy Fawkes night in November and a Christmas Parade.   After having to choose between the two winter events because of a lack of funding, “Christmas in Blue Hills” was born in 2006 and became more than just a Wheeland event, as residents from all islands began to attend.

“Rain or shine, we have never missed a year”, she said.   “It invokes excitement in both old and young— my heart is warm knowing that I made an impact in their lives” she continued, referring to the many senior citizens that have been benefited from the event.

She sent a great thank you to her family and friends whom she admitted she has drawn into her events time and time again.  Morgan maintains that her first and foremost purpose was to help her community.

“Having no community center in Wheeland or in Blue Hills caused my home to be called ‘Wheeland Community Center’—” she said.  “I may not impact all of humanity, but a single drop of water can create many ripples.  I hope I have created some ripples.”

She said that what she wanted to do most with the 2022 Humanitarian of the Year Award was to pass the baton on and hoped that her story and the prize inspired many other islanders who have ideas for service; Dean-Morgan wants these islanders to simply ‘take the plunge.’

An avid player of the Rip Saw, Morgan currently serves as Assistant Treasurer for the Child Evangelism Foundation, CEF; is a member of the Social Welfare Department Board and directs Children’s Ministries at the Church of God of Prophecy in Blue Hills.

She serves as a member of Women Aglow; and is the longest serving woman in the Turks and Caicos Islands Maritime Community.
